The UserVoice logo updated for the World Cup:

Not since I rock’n'rolled (although that may also be true), but since I wrote a post on here. It hasn’t been due to lack of time, although I have told myself I’ve been too busy many times. Its been through a lose of desire to engage, a lot has happened to my family and I since 20th August 2008 and much of it has been very draining.

People have told me I should write about the passing of my father and his 22 year battle with cancer (and to some degree with arrogance and incompetence in the NHS) and I’ve thought about it. Somehow though, this doesn’t seem the correct forum. However, I did feel that to just start posting on here with no indication of what happened in the last 20 months would be a little odd. With that said, hopefully, now, normality (at least as far as blogging) can be resumed.

On with the show………

Just been flicking through the cartoons at xkcd.com again and came across this one which made me chuckle:

Also found the GeoHashing, Spontaneous Adventure Generator to be very interesting idea. Check it out.

Just a quick thing, on the off chance that anybody reading this has got a bit of value out of the FCKeditor plugin or from Ajax / Active Scaffold; and maybe thought of donating something (unlikely I know, its not all that!!) or saying thanks, here is the opportunity:

Sponsor my sister on something (Cancer Research) that means a lot to our family (for the why just read what my sister wrote):

Race For Life

Thanks for listening.

Just installed the new Firefox 3 RC1. Very cool. Seems to be very fast and stable. I had an instant and very positive reaction to it — mostly because there has been no visible slow down in the rest of the computer since I opened it (not something I could say about FF2). Well worth a play.

I like the default look and feel too, very clean. Good job guys.

Further to the DDOS attack turns out that they had managed to create 43,046 trackbacks before it was stopped — so much for Akismet, or is it Typo — actually thats probably a little unfair considering I haven’t updated in a while!!

Anyway its still going on, I’ve just turned them off on the blog and set the server to deny all access to any url containing ‘trackback’. What a pain in the arse these bots / people are.

  • God exists
  • There are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq
  • Afganistan is now a much better place
  • Our destinies are controlled by the movements of the celestial bodies
  • The world is flat
  • President Bush deserves to be in power
  • Life coaches are qualified to do what they do
  • The internet is a series of tubes
  • Religion is a good thing
  • There are fairies at the bottom of the garden

Thanks to Richard Dawkins for reminding me I do have some reasonable opinions!!

I got my first batch of cards from Moo today and they are great. I can’t recommend the site enough. The product is neat — any image you like form your Flickr account on the back of a business (ish) card, the user experience is brilliant, and the result is pretty high quality — all for $25 for 100. Brilliant…..

You can also do Skype cards, get ten for free using the ‘freebie’ code.

So been away, had a great time, come back to over 1,000 spam trackbacks from porn sites on my blog, really really not good. My apologies to anyone who may have had to wade through that offensive crap to read any of the plugin bits and pieces. I have now disabled trackbacks which should stop it. But, of course prevents anyone genuine from using a great feature of blogging.

So I’m off for a long weekend on the infamous EasyCruise boat. We are sailing from Nice (one of my favourite French cities) to Cannes, St Tropez and finally Monacco. All in the short space of 4 days. So, please excuse the lack of response to any comments posted during that time. Normal service will be resumed next week.

Bon weekend tout le monde.
